Damaged or Decayed Teeth

Dental crowns are made of a material like porcelain and are placed over the tooth. They are a cap that is used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance following a restoration procedure like root canal therapy. When you experience decay in a tooth, a significant portion must be removed. Crowns are also often used to restore the tooth. Our entire staff is proud to assist patients in Woburn, MA with damaged or decayed teeth.

We use crowns to attach bridges, cover implants, prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse or guard a filling that is becoming loose or dislocated. A crown also serves as an aesthetic. It can be applied when a discolored tooth needs to be restored to its natural appearance.

Your tooth needs to be reduced in size so that the crown fits perfectly. Dr. Massabni creates a custom design that is made from your existing tooth. We will send it to a dental lab to accomplish that. In some cases, a temporary crown is put in place. Once your permanent crown is available, it is cemented in place.

A quality crown can last up to eight years or longer. It is important to keep the area around the crown very clean. This involves flossing and brushing daily, and seeing your dentist every six months. If you are experiencing jaw clenching or teeth grinding, it will significantly shorten the life of the crown.
