Why should you choose the CEREC® method?
CEREC® technology allows our team to provide you with a custom-made, high-quality dental restoration in a single visit to our office that is centrally located in Woburn, MA. CEREC® uses photographs of your dental structure to create a 3-D digital model. With this information, we create a custom porcelain tooth to restore and conceal damage to the natural tooth.
This advanced technology also gives us the confidence we need to make sure your dental piece fits your mouth perfectly. CEREC® technology saves you time and discomfort by eliminating the need for a second visit.
With CEREC technology, we can create the following types of dental restorations in just one visit:
- Dental crowns
- Dental veneers
- Dental inlays and onlays
What Are Crowns?
A crown, sometimes referred to as a cap, covers your tooth to restore it to its natural form and shape. We use the CEREC® machine to craft your crown from porcelain, which is the strongest and most durable material a crown can be made from. This ensures the longevity of your crown under normal conditions of chewing and talking.
Once we have scanned your mouth with CEREC®, we will begin crafting your custom crown so that it will fit perfectly over your remaining tooth material. Since this is done digitally, the need for messy impressions is a thing of the past. We craft the crown in our office the same day so there is no need for a second appointment. Once the crown is crafted, we will carefully place it over the repaired tooth and ensure it fits comfortably without irritating the surrounding gums, teeth, and cheek.
Do I Need a Crown?
Crowns may be needed or wanted for several reasons. These may include:
- Cracked or weakened tooth – a crown can be placed over the remaining tooth material after the damage has been removed or repaired
- Root canal treatment – your restored tooth will be protected by a crown
- Cavity that is too large to treat with a filling – a crown may be used alone or in conjunction with a filling to strengthen the remaining tooth material
- Discolored or misshapen tooth – for cosmetic purposes, a crown can cover the tooth entirely to improve the aesthetics of your smile
How Do I Care For My Crown?
Caring for crowns is as simple as caring for your natural teeth. It is important to brush at least twice per day and floss at least once each day. This preventative oral hygiene routine helps to prevent decay and infection, which can lead to cavities and periodontal disease. Although the crown is made of synthetic material, there will still be part of your natural tooth below it, which is why it’s essential to care for it just as you would the rest of your teeth and gums. It is also important to continue to come in for your regular check-ups so we can help you keep your pearly whites in tip-top shape.
